I am once again pushing Work Block propaganda

-a productive thread-
You may need to redefine your work style if:

- you wear many hats (student/employee/entrepreneur/parent/etc.)

- you find yourself burning out while completing tasks

- you feel you don’t have enough time in a day to get things done
Why work in blocks?

- keeps you organized with tasks

- avoids the “burnout” feeling/shakes up your schedule (keeps it “interesting”!)

- makes you feel like you’ve tackled more than one thing on your To-Do list (utilizing your day to the max)
My personal definition of a Work Block is “a designated length of time dedicated to a specific task.”

The length is subjective to your personal needs.

I like to work in hour-long blocks, because my schedule is pretty open.
I used to work in 30 min blocks for 4 hrs a day.
What does that mean?

Set the timer for 1 hour*.

Work as hard as you can on ONE task. (I.e. cleaning the kitchen, sorting laundry, packaging orders, studying, etc. )

*length of Block’s time is up to you
When the timer goes off, wrap it up and move on to the next task.

You may not be finished. That’s okay.

Your next task/Work Block can be anything you want—it doesn’t have to be work. It can be some play, too. 😉

I always add a block for gameplay/watching a show episode.
“But I’m not finished with that task!!!!”

That’s okay.
The goal is to AVOID feeling burned out.

& to promote proper utilization of your time when you have a lot to get done.

Plus, you can always use the same task for another Work Block. (:
Here’s a list of today’s Work Blocks for myself.
Tips—

If you have a kid or some other distraction, don’t be afraid to pause your timer if you’re stopping your Block task to handle something else.

Really UTILIZE that hour* workspace.

You’ll be SUPER surprised what you can get done in a designated time.
Tips con’t—

Don’t keep checking the timer to see how much time is left during a specific Work Block.

Keep working. Do your thang.

Keeping yourself focused in the moment promotes fast, quality work!
Side note:

You CAN be burned out from work block days as well. I don’t do Work Block days more than 2 days in a row.

Today was a very heavy work/clean day for me, but tomorrow will be a bit more relaxed.

Do what works for you. But don’t stress yourself out.
Being overwhelmed is NOT where it’s at. If you have a chance to make things a bit easier for yourself, take it.

Lastly, YOU are a bad bitch and you can get all those things done, babe. You got this.
