I’m currently studying for tech interviews & IM NOT PERFECT.

Lately I’ve made some silly mistakes while studying for tech interviews so I’ll share them here so you don’t make them, too.

1. Not taking breaks.
Sometimes I find a comfy spot, not adhering to my AnimeDoro schedule (45mins work, 20min break) or get stuck on a confusing problem instead of walking away for a moment.

Please give your body the recharge it needs to process new information.
Planning ahead will assist you, take into account when your peaks of productivity are. Make it a goal to take a certain amount of steps after studying a concept.

Pleeeease go pee or drink water or eat. Your body will thank you. 😁
2. You take notes on ALL the materials.

Rereading or rewatching that whole 20min video about recursion won’t do you any good. I prefer to actively engage with the material by reading/ watching a video and pausing to remind myself what I understand about the concept...
Rewriting the material or examples in my own words in my notes helps me retain the Information clearly.
3. Multitasking

If we’re all so great at multitasking then why does it feel like I don’t retain anything after I’ve sent a text while watching a show?

The same rules apply to studying. You don’t retain anything. Our brains never have the time to fully adjust to focus on one...
thing as we go along doing 2+ tasks. So relieve yourself of the drama. Please plan ahead with your studying. Put your phone on DND & don’t pick it up until your break. Your contacts know where to find you if they need you.

Find time to plan meals and breaks.
3. Studying 🎶 aaaallll by myyyseeeeeeeelf 🎶

I really love my accountability group with my twitter friends @EriPDev @hannahrosecodes @maddiexcampbell & @thecaitcode

I tell them how I plan my weeks for studying. With my students I have quiet study time in groups...
I also use those Study With Me Pomodoro or AnimeDoro videos on YouTube, so it feels like someone is studying with me if no one real time is available. In my slack group with the courses I’m going over I’m able to ask questions I’m real time & feel good that I’m not alone
4. Memorizing concepts

I’m not saaaayyyying this is necessarily wrong to do. But the concept of technical interviews (broken process or not), is that interviewers want to know if you can break down a problem & relay the info to them in real time. Try to write down...
Or verbally walk through your process. Rubber ducking is still a pretty cool thing. I have my limited edition Kingdom Hearts Tsum Tsums to help me out with this. It’s just another way to help you retain and reexplain information [END]
