"Put Israel on Edge"..when I started reading this article I honestly tried to keep an open mind and see how they had illustrated the situation. It was honestly disappointing tbh while they discussed the trigger of what brought tensions to a boiling point it was mostly as an after https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1391788220589936640
thought. Majority of this article gives off the impression that it was essentially almost an unmitigated terrorist attack by extremists who were upset over a small inconvenience. "Palestinians had stockpiled stones" in anticipation of a stand off with the police.
What you fail to clarify is the why in this regard. Why are you not addressing the fact that the Palestinians had a need to do this in the 1st place? Why were the police entering a sacred mosque which is a place of peace and worship NOT Violence and bloodshed with rubber bullets.
The stone piling was self defense. Where are the accounts of how people were literally attacked during prayer time. When they were standing in congregation in prayer, HOW WERE THEY A THREAT TO ANYONE. Muslim prayers are acts of self restraint and discipline no one was is able to
Move or shift from their positions for any reason. People had to break prayer on one of the holiest nights in our religion because they were attacked in a place of safety and peace. The fact soldier stomped through throwing smoke bombs, dirtying sacred ground with feet & locking
Worshippers in a mosque previously was completely ignored. The fact that the "Israeli police" even attacked the medical tents previously where Palestinian victims were getting treated was also ignored. The article discusses the air strikes uptill now this thread is explaining
What happened beforehand. The article does discuss Sheikh Jarrah to an extent but again it glosses over major details and keeps it incredibly vague. Sheikh Jarrah is a palestinian neighbourhood in Israel, where recently the Israeli court gave permission to the Jewish population
To essentially kick out families and take up residence in their homes illegally. There are literal videos of the israeli police and other members of the Jewish faction dragging Palestinian families from their homes, of kids crying. One viral video even depicts a Palestinian woman
Asking a jewish man why had he come to takeover her home and his literal response was ' because if I won't then someone else will take it before me' like honestly how is this ACCEPTABLE. This entire fiasco in regards to kicking families out of their ancestral homes illegally is
The reason that the already preexisting tensions reached to the point that they have. That's why the Palestinians were protesting in the first place; against illegal occupation. Their market places were attacked a few days back where they were literally just going about normally.
It was the same police force that Netanyahu commends for acting so strongly that instigated this escalation. They attacked unarmed civilians who were SHOPPING (not protesting) at the time. They then went and literally attacked them again at on of their holiest sites. How will
This not lead to an escalation?? The article at least tries to be somewhat objective in regards to the air strikes but just barely. Theres an over emphasis on the "militant group" and "stone throwing palestinians" what's ironic is that they refer to the police protecting Al Aqsa
But then go straight to how Palestinians had stockpiled stones for a standoff. Of course they did!! Would u feel safe with the people who attacked u in a place of safety to stand outside same said place???
I am not defending terrorism but logically if you have a 'militant religious group' present at your border and you were to storm and disrespect the sanctity of one of their holiest sites how did you figure IT WOULD GO UNRESPONDED?? Did u not expect this to escalate???
The fact that it was his very govt. that has been at the forefront of instigating intolerance towards muslims seems quite hypocritical. When your homes are being being illegally taken do you expect that you would not resist? That does not justify defacing a religious site.
