Kicking off my first in-person city council meeting since I started @GreenvilleNews. Lots to discuss tonight, including text amendments in place of a moratorium.
All councilmembers are present save the mayor, who is out for the birth of his grandchild.
Also of note: former police chief Ken Miller attended tonight to speak about an alarm ordinance the city is passing. Miller resigned in 2020 following a misconduct investigation.
In public comment, @kwadjoc voiced support for the city’s proposed text amendments (which are expected to go before council in June). Also commended council’s bipartisan spirit and efforts
@JalenElrod called on council to do more to protect minority districts from gentrification. “We need to do better. Because very frankly, the city of Greenville is becoming a city of the haves and have-nots”
I neglected this thread but hey it’s hard to live tweet and take notes at the same time
