Did you know that Egyptians say that they brought Christianity to Ireland?
Here's the story as it was told to me.
There was a king of Ireland in the 2nd or 3rd century, and his daughter was sick.
They searched high and low for a cure but couldn't find anything to help her. It was leprosy.
Eventually, the king's search for a cure led him to the monks of Egypt, where St Mark had brought Christianity in the year AD 42.
The Egyptian monks cured the king of Ireland's daughter, and the king brought to Ireland five monks, who brought with them Christianity and the monastic tradition.
They are buried under "the oldest mountain".
That's the story I was told.
