Interesting to see a member of your family subject to a twitter pile-on.
The following are personal thoughts and opinions.
Philip has worked for over 14 months, putting in savage hours, in a role that carries a huge amount of responsibility.
Decisions made have a huge impact on
lives and livelihoods. Those decisions are made in real time with data that can be incomplete and rapidly changing.
He has, along with other key members of NPHET, communicated frequently and honestly with the public in an effort to inform them so we, as a country, could come outO
of this in the best situation possible. This is all done in the media spotlight and treading a thin line between communicating, answering questions and also doing the work of contributing to Ireland's response.
During it, on this platform and others, people have questioned his
integrity, honesty, motivations and qualification for the job. He, and others in NPHET, are power hungry, drunk on fame etc etc
He is a better man than me not to respond.
People seem to not take any of this into account with this pile on.
What is interesting to me is that the context of the Lidl tweet is ignored.
CMO expressed concern that a supermarket were selling antigen tests, which as Kingston Mills stated today have 50-60% sensitivity in untrained hands. He gave the BBQ scenario and people ignoring PH advice
Lidl used this to send (reported as tongue in cheek) tweet to promote their product. One could have interpreted Philip's response as tongue in cheek too?
No, pile on merchants reckon its slanderous, he should be sacked by the University, kicked off NPHET etc
NPHET has guided us through this pandemic with assurance. We have done better than most countries. The vast majority of the public have stayed on board and played a huge part in the overall outcome.
I am, and remain proud of my brother's role in it and appreciative of NPHETs work
