Thread: For those on the sports photo journey, I urge you to make shooting pro sports not your only goal. Covering non-pro sports can be just as rewarding. You often get better access, which allows for more room to create unique photos. There’s often more emotion...
Due to less coverage, the athletes tend to appreciate your photos more. If you approach your work the same at every game with the same amount of care and attention to detail, the possibilities of creating good work are endless.
What’s often not talked about is the headache and restrictions of covering pro sports. You have to work with the shooting positions your given. Often you get screwed with that. With youth sports, for example, you have more freedom with that, which give you more creative freedom.
All in all, don’t beat yourself up for not being at the pro level yet. Sadly, most often don’t get there. Find the joy in what you have access to and approach those games in the same way you’d approach the pros and I can guarantee you’ll create some awesome work along the way.
