I am someone who spends a lot of time making and consuming Moments, so I have some thoughts about what works in them and what doesn't!

Going to thread for a moment... https://twitter.com/bobbycblanchard/status/1391831383862087680
At the Tribune, we think of our Moments as stories.

We use Moments to tell and own storylines off-platform. We want Moments to be helpful to someone trying to understand something.

Someone should leave the Moment being an expert in the thing you were telling them.
I love this example of a Moment by @KamiRieck because it is thorough and helps you understand what is going on with rural broadband internet in Texas https://twitter.com/i/events/1374474821333962755
That is if you're explaining a complicated subject matter.

What if you're covering local + urgent breaking news?
You want the Moment to
1). Be useful to local readers
2). Helpful to national readers who are approaching it for the first time
3). Tie the dots between what is happening in your backyard to other backyards
An ex I like is this @itsyasmeenk's Moment featuring voting restrictions coverage after Texas lawmakers advanced legislation.

It includes the recap of what happened, the context leading up to it and related news from outside of TX. https://twitter.com/i/events/1390605185551056897
Making these moments are made easier by the fact that the @TexasTribune employs fantastic journalists who are very good at Twitter and at sharing news online.

Now, some pet peeves — from a Moment consumer's point of view...
Your moment should be able to stand on its own.

If you're making moments that don't fully represent the story you're linking to or capture the conversation happening around something, you're coming up short.
If your moment is about visuals, use the visuals in a moment. It always irks me when I see moments about photos or video or animation or something and the moment doesn't have any photos in it.
And — please use alt-text.

It isn't hard and it helps your audience.

More on that here. https://twitter.com/regmack_/status/1362061802557878276
