Hint: people in Darlington don't see themselves as part of a homogeneous blob of political sentiment and nobody there uses the term Red Wall. I guess we should ask: what else could we be wrong about here? https://twitter.com/Hlrybuck/status/1391826721448632334
The madness here is that we are now referring to an incredibly diverse sub set of the population in teens largely constructed by London media. I've made a point of paying attention only to people who've visited these areas and I intend to do so myself.

Why would people vote Boris? Might it have been something to do with many prominent Labour figures trying to reverse the result of a democratic referendum? What if they don't love Boris but instead held their noses and voted for someone who at least pretends to listen to them 😉
Just theorising here
Why consider that when you can get a vox pop of an old man who's been let down by both parties so many times he literally doesn't know the difference between them đŸ€”
While Blair is held up as the gold standard, it was during his leadership that the party of the working class was gentrified. The rise of carrerists who behaved according to strategy and not principles was a timebomb that would always blow eventually.
Important also to consider the context in which red wallers are making decisions about politics. These are some of the most challenged, often remote communities in Britain. Poorly connected. Hollowed out. When you have nothing to lose, sometimes politics becomes about lashing out
The 'adults in the room' shit Blairists hit out with perfectly incaptulates the middle class carrerist paternalism which drove a big wedge between labour and working class people.
While the left naval gazed on immigration and ID pol (scared to call out the Liberal remain narratives and excesses of post modernism out of fear of being cancelled) Brendan O'Neil, Talk Radio and a bunch of other grifters filled the void.
Now we're back giving it the 'we hear you'- five years late to the party. Labour will try and solve this with vapid value politics which contains no analysis of working class voters objective interests. Yee fucking ha!
Win them back by walking alongside them and fucking listening to them.

Rocket science I know.

Irony is its the activists and campaigners organising around clear community orientated objectives who are best placed to do this. Starmer already distancing himself from them.
