how i effectively stopped binging : a thread <3
disclaimer - this is what worked for me and may not work for everyone. these are not healthy habits and if you don’t have an ed don’t read pls!
insight- I have struggled with the binge and restrict cycle for a long time, this is how I got out of it and stayed out!
http://1.Do not limit what food you can eat
Not allowing myself to have the foods that i was craving only made my brain want it more (stubborn, i know) so instead i would tell myself “i can have it, but i don’t really want it” (1/2)

if i was still really craving it, i will have it! Allow yourself whatever it is you’re craving in very small portions to satisfy the craving without going overboard and having too much (2/2)
2. Portion control
I cannot stress enough how much this helped me!! Learning portion control made all the difference, because it gives you the ability to eat more variety of foods. Learning portion control helps you eat anything and stay in a calorie deficit! (1/2)

This is also helpful for people that eat with their parents, because you don’t have to skip meals, just have smaller amounts when you eat (2/2)
3. Do not give yourself set calorie limits
Following a calorie limit (such as abc diet or other set calorie diets) is dangerous because if you go over (even by a couple calories) then “you failed and might as well binge” (1/2)

Instead, give yourself a calorie window (i go by 200-800, give or take) and stay within it! Take it day by day and keep an eye on the numbers without forcing an exact amount! (2/2)
4. Listen to your body
Some days are harder than others, and you need a bit more food to get through the day, don’t be afraid to up your intake for a day! If you feel you need it, there is nothing wrong with having more and going over your calorie window (1/2)

For example, my calorie window is 200-800, however if i wake up feeling weak and unwell I’ll allow myself closer to 1200 because my body needs it! Ignoring these feelings could lead to a binge (2/2)
5. Safe meals!
Have set safe meals! When you are feeling hungry and don’t know what to have, this can trigger binges because you’ll grab whatever’s in front of you. Having safe meals at home that are easy and low calorie will give you a go to meal when you’re in need

6. Stay hydrated
Make sure you’re drinking a ton of water throughout the day! Personally I find it hard to drink a whole lot of water, so I drink green tea as well! Water and (most) tea is 0 calories and will fill you up!
