A short thread: 1/ This morning while driving James to school he asked if I could get the sun out of his eye. I looked in the rear view mirror & saw his eyes watering because the sun was coming through the window & directly onto his face. I realized I forgot to put his hat on as
2/ we rushed out of the house this morning. I felt terrible. I told him to hang in there because I was driving and couldn’t get back there to help. He said “oook daddy” in a tone that I’ve come to hate; one that brings his limitations to to life. For anyone else
3/ no problem (for the most part). Sun in their eyes is easily manageable. Simply turn your head or put on a hat or sunglasses. Easy. Not for James though. He just doesn’t have the strength. Imagine not having the strength to turn your head to avoid too much sun in your eyes?
4/ That is 100% something we take for granted. I started thinking about when the next exit was, or where I could pull over to help him. I decided to get off 2 exits early to give the little man some relief. Just as I exited and pulled into a parking lot to help him I hear “AHA!”.
5/ I look back and see that he found his sunglasses in his pocket. What happened over the next 30-45 seconds is something I’ll never forget. He wrestled his sunglasses out of his pocket and with an assist from his knee he slowly pushed them onto his face. They were crooked, but
6/ they were on his face and the sun was no longer in his eyes. I’m not sure you all will understand this, but

WHAT. A. MOMENT!

Every single day this kid wakes up and goes to work. He’s stronger and smarter than he was yesterday because of his hard work and determination.
7/7 We all could learn something from him, I’m sure. I’m so proud to be his dad.

Thanks to those of you who read all the way through this thread. I’ll leave you with a picture of his victorious moment
