Some lovely news today. We have now closed our huge 'surge' COVID ICU @teamaccu @RoyalLondonHosp and moved the final few COVID patients to our 'main' ICU. This place was a lifeboat for more than 500 patients with life-threatening COVID.... 1/3

....and holds some fond memories as well as many sad ones. The team effort from all of @NHSBartsHealth and beyond is something I will never forget. @NHSuk at its very best. At a guess more than 2000 wonderful staff worked here to achieve something I didn't think possible. 2/3

We need only look to India to see how real COVID remains, and how lucky we are to have a successful vaccination programme in the UK. We must never forget how close we came this winter. Thanks to all of you for your faith and support at a time when the truth was hard to find. 3/3
