Sometimes when ppl say "no one tells you how hard motherhood is" they are really saying "we don't listen to people who talk about motherhood". Because. There's so much devoted to telling ppl, in granular detail, why motherhood is hard. But culture asks for this perpetual surprise

which is to say, the "silence" around motherhood is not because writers and artists aren't interrogating that space. it's because the culture as a whole willfully ignores them. I dunno. "No one talks about x" framing is so harmful to those doing the work.

and that is true across multiple experiences, not just motherhood
