the 'don't go to london you'll get stabbed' stuff, coming primarily from the white and older middle class is, among many things, so SO offensive because that simply isn't who gets stabbed in london. yeah london has loads of knife crime but it doesn't affect everyone near equally

not impossible but it is extremely unlikely that a random visitor to london will be stabbed. the roots of the knife problem are deep and complex but its effects are really concentrated. i live in a borough with a lot of stabbings and it is wildly unlikely it will happen to me

mostly who gets stabbed in london is young people. kids. even school age kids. it's a serious, horrible problem, but it's not a problem of random violence, and hearing 40 year old landlords in berkshire hooting about it is doing my head in

like i get that it's primarily a racist cudgel for bashing khan, and i know that the reality doesn't actually matter to these people. but it matters to me. it should matter to more people not directly affected!
