How I got out of depression and found peace in life.

///A THREAD///
In today's world, it is very easy to get into depression.

But that doesn't mean that you should stay there, you should help yourselves to get out of the depression.

I will tell you how I got out of depression step by step.
Before moving on to the steps, let's get clear on a common question:

Are sadness and depression the same?

No. If you worry when something goes wrong, then it is sadness.

If you worry without any specific reason, then it is depression.
1. Give-up expectations:

Stop expecting things, people, and life situations to happen in a certain way.

Accept what it is and try to make the most out of it.

Expectations always lead to suffering.

Most of our worry starts when reality doesn't meet our expectations.
2. Stop trying to control people:

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi.

We always fall into the trap that other people are the reason for our failures and we try to change them to change our situation. But sadly, It doesn't work that way.
We can't change others, we have the power only to change ourselves and set an example to others.

Become mentally strong in a way that people's behavior no longer affects your state of mind.

I will mention some habits later in the thread, to make you mentally stronger.
3. Stop 'the pursuit of happiness:

You can't be happy in life if you constantly chase happiness in the form of things, people, or money. None is going to make you 'really' happy.

Happiness arises only when you start living in the present moment instead of waiting for it.
Realize that the present moment is all there is. You can't think or feel outside the present moment.

You can plan your future, but the action can be taken only in the present moment.

Happiness comes when you no longer need anything to make you happy.
4. Be grateful for what you have already:

Money is the cause for most depression cases. We blindly chase money all our life without realizing that we don't need so much money to live a happy life.

If we get something, we always want more of it, that's human nature.
Of course, money will definitely remove most of our money problems, but we should not make money as the priority of our life.

Be grateful for the money, things, and people you already have in life. This will bring more of those to you.
5. Love yourself:

A married couple can be happy only if each of them is happy with their own self.

You should not depend on others to love you and make you feel good.

Accept your imperfections, start loving yourself and be proud to be yourself.
6. Meditation:

Meditation helps you to let go of all your negative energies and makes way for positive thinking.

It calms your mind and will teach you how to be patient and embrace the present moment.

Sit with your eyes closed for at least 20 minutes every day.
7. Physical exercise:

Moving your body will tame your mind. Once you start breaking limits with your body, you'll start to break limitations in your mind too.

You don't need a fancy gym membership to work out, you can start by doing body-weight exercises at home.
8. Reading:

We have many researchers claiming that learning a new thing daily will reduce the chance of depression. That's true.

Reading improves your thinking, makes you calm and a good book will make you feel good.

Read at least 1 hour every day.
9. Journaling:

Write down your thoughts on a notebook or a Wordpad on your pc. (Protect it with a password if you need more privacy)

Writing down your thoughts de-clutters your mind and gets rid of confusion and it will help you to reduce over-thinking.
Thanks for reading this thread.

I hope these points will help you to come out of the depression, like mine.

If I can do it, anyone can do it.
