If you're reading this tweet, you're playing the Great Online Game.

The Game is played concurrently by billions of people, online, as themselves, with real-world consequences.

The downsides are limited; the upside is infinite. https://www.notboring.co/p/the-great-online-game
What we call work these days fits the OED definition of a video game: A game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or other display screen.

@NikMilanovic nailed it: https://twitter.com/NikMilanovic/status/1390720487328821250?s=20
On @InvestLikeBest with @patrick_oshag, @joshbuckley said that the best games create flow, and pointed out that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are giant, 3-billion player games.

He laid out 4 elements of successful game design:
The Great Online Game hits all four, but it's played out across the whole internet, and has offline consequences: jobs, money, friends, and more.

@blakeir's tweet expresses a common sentiment among people mastering the Game: the internet is incredible. https://twitter.com/blakeir/status/1391407597450891266?s=20
No one plays the game better than @ElonMusk.

He’s doing things that people didn’t think were physically possible -- see: Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink -- & getting away with things that people didn’t think legal -- pumping Dogecoin, $420 take-private tweet, getting high on Joe Rogan.
You don't need to be a real person to play well. @BoredElonMusk plays well too.

He's grown his Twitter following to 1.7 million, and recently sold NFTs for ~$1 million.
@Alex_Danco literally built himself an online world: Dancoland.

He wrote to explore, landed a dream job at @Shopify, and is continuing to play the Great Online game with new allies like @jposhaughnessy & @TheAnnaGat's @interintellect_
Or take Meghan Leeds. @rex_woodbury's thread is a great overview of someone playing the Game well. https://twitter.com/rex_woodbury/status/1390829022473383936?s=20
Obviously, @LilNasX is playing the game at a different level.

From memer to Old Town Road to billions of listens and a platform through which he advances the LGBTQ cause.
@FrancisSuarez is growing an entire city by playing the Great Online Game. Miami's resurgence started on twitter, with a "How can I be helpful?" https://twitter.com/FrancisSuarez/status/1335037068108554241?s=20
There are millions more playing the Great Online Game well. A few more examples:

People in crypto seem to understand better than anyone that this is all a game. The right meme can send a random coin to the moon and make people legitimately rich.

They have an advantage: crypto is in-game money for the internet.
@patrickxrivera's presentation on NFTs triggered that idea for me

NFTs are the skins of the Great Online Game.

Social tokens are points with financial upside.
DAOs are a way to build teams.
Many of the most successful web3 projects in the coming years will serve to give the Great Online Game tools that were previously only available within the walled gardens of specific virtual or corporate worlds. I'm excited about @viamirror @seedclubhq @CrucibleNetwork @opolis
So how to play the Game? This idea from @harleyf is a great place to start.

That’s true for entrepreneurship, and it’s even more true for the Great Online Game. You're just building optionality. https://twitter.com/packyM/status/1390775211264462849?s=20
Anyone can play the Great Online Game. You can start now.

Ask yourself: “What am I nerdiest about?” and then go find your fellow nerds. They’re out there.
Important note: don’t be an asshole. It’s an easy way to get some followers early, and if you’re trying to game that metric, it might work, but it’s also the easiest way to lose your life in the Great Online Game.
Playing the Game is about having fun and opening doors that you didn’t even know existed.

It’s a lot of work, but it’s fun work, with exponential upside and compounding returns.

Go play. https://www.notboring.co/p/the-great-online-game
