Things were not bad for the natives until December 2020 when the administrator of the Union Territory was changed due to health issues and Praful patel who was the home minister of Gujarat under Modi was given the additional charge of Lakshadweep along with his Dadra Nagar (2/n)

Lakshadweep have almost 99% muslim population and as you can expect someone from the Gujarat model having control over such a place has resulted in some radical changes in the systems. Those who have protested are in jail and now people are scared to even raise their voice (3/n)

Mr Patel after taking charge has imposed strict coastline rules which has changed the protocol of no temporary or permanent buildings near 50 meters of the beach to 20. This has effected in the daily lives of the natives whose main source of income is fishing (4/n)

The regime are now forcibly destroying the fishing sheds and other properties saying they are making room for the smart city project. They have also brought in a goonda act to a place where the crime rate used to be close to zero. The need for it? To suppress the voices (5/n)

The changed policies of Covid handling of the island has seen the place going from zero covid patients to a cluster of positive cases. This spells danger mainly because of the lack of expert medical care available (6/n)

The regime even introduced a law which disqualifies people with more than 2 kids to contest in elections. Not to mention the proposed beef ban and the forceful arrests of people who protested CAA_NRC more than a year back (7/n)

Lakshadweep is a union territory directly ruled by the centre. The MP & other local body members don't have much say in what's going on. The islanders need your support to get back their livelihoods. They are fighting a losing battle do what u can . Thanks (8/8)
