A lot of good stuff has been said! I will add that productivity is overrated in academia and depends how is defined (your work or others work). This is a one size fit all. I do my work in the AM as that is when I am more productive and have less distractions. 1
There is also the space and rhythm to be productive: I have days that I blocked 3 hours to do a task and cannot find a way to get started and others I can get everything and more done in 2 hours. If I don’t feel I have the concentration for my work, I do either others work 2
Or what I called cruise-control work- tasks that need to get done without a lot of thinking. I hate meetings and it took me a long time to accept that they were part of my job and I cannot make up the time waste in my day by staying late at work. 3
