I& #39;ve been thinking about horror games lately and what makes something truly scary. I feel like so many- big and indie ones- rely on the same tropes that there hasn& #39;t been anything really innovative for years. So I& #39;m curious: what makes something scary/unsettling for you?
For me it& #39;s the slow tension building, the little uncanny things that feel out of place in an otherwise normal setting. Someone& #39;s smile that& #39;s just a bit too wide, a gait that is just a bit uneven, a stare that lasts a moment too long. A brightly lit street full of houses with-
no windows. Repetitive, slightly jarring motions. The complete absence of sound.
I could go on all day, but yet I feel like these things are never explored in a genre full of haunted hauses, slamming doors or creepy girls with matted black hair.

I know this thread probably seems strangely OOC for the content that& #39;s usually on my timeline, but I genuinely enjoy horror and once I have more time on my hands, you can totally expect some spoopy art to slide its way into my portfolio.
