HOW TO APPEAR CONFIDENT:

We all get nervous in certain phases of our lives when dealing with others.

It may be in an interview, conversing with a potential client or seeking the help of a sponsor.

So how do you appear confident?

(A THREAD)
1. Own the room: When you walk into a room, get comfortable around it (without being proud or pompous).

Don't sit at the edge of the chair, sit fully, relax your back and be in an upright position.

Just relax.
2. Diffuse the tension: Sometimes it might be serious and official meetings, but you can still diffuse the tension

Pass a light comment, or say something hearty. Complimenting the client's wristwatch may be a good start.

You'll feel more comfortable.
3. Have a firm handshake (post Covid): When you're meeting someone for the first time and you shake hands, get a good grip and shake well.

No loose hands, no hard force, just good ol' official great handshake.

Also, this isn't gender specific.
Let them lead: With clients or interviewers, we feel the need to talk a lot to prove ourselves.

STOP THAT!

Let them lead the conversation, answer their questions briefly yet comprehensively and do not talk for too long..

Take some pressure off yourself.
Speak Fluently: When you are supposed to speak, think and gather the words in your mind first.

When you start speaking, let the words flow, no unnecessary pauses, no speech fillers..

Just flow in your speech.
Maintain Eye Contact: Never look away from the other person.

Look, but don't stare and do not break their gaze. You'll come across as attentive and confident.

Nod and "hmm" and "I see" as you hold their gaze.

Smile as well sometimes.
Altogether, when you try these things, you may bag that win just from being confident.

Remember, when you're confident, others will have confidence in you

It's contagious.
