You know when you wake up and potter about, just musing and things just come into better focus?

When Starmer in his dismal interview on Friday was just bleating "And we have changed ... we have changed"?

The people he was addressing, the only people, were the Wealthy Donors.
He hid away then, he didn't congratulate people who'd had success, wasn't interested in taking criticism or fronting up. The only thing he wanted to be seen to be doing was "restructuring". The only people he wanted to reach ... are corporates and wealthy individuals with funds.
A central part of the Rightist coup was to get funding from Capital. The "exclusive club, leader access" was about that. Now its in panic mode. Hence Mandelson briefing war on union activists. They're speaking to fractions of Capital. Please give us funds, we will be your party.
The stuff about rebuilding, winning "the right to a hearing". Statements that make no sense in response to direct questions about why you've gone backwards and lost support. Its for wealthy donors. We'll carry on with this "strategy". We will remake this party. But we need funds.
And the reshuffle? He scapegoats someone who looks and sounds "Labour". He does the inevitable replacement of Dodds with Reeves. Rayner gets "future of work" non job to signal to Capital that *here and now*, its Reeves, the ex banker. Forget the country. This is about The City.
That's why Mandelson there. He's not offering suggestions from outside. He's in the meetings. He's feeding the media anti Union and anti activism stuff. Which is also a signal to the City. Its Prawn Cocktail Offensive 2. The platform for 1997 was City support and backroom deals.
There's a more desperate look about it now because they're cash strapped. They expected to tide themselves over by swapping Corbyn era small donations for medium donations from eager Blairites plus docile Union donations. But the plan was always to go to amenable Capital.
And there could still be mileage in this. Brexit could still go tits up. Post Covid Britain could be moribund. Things that have been held back by Covid could well turn out to be bad things and Tory popularity could slump. "Business" (Big Capital) isn't sentimental. It could jump
But the point isn't whether Labour could get lucky, or even if this is the right strategy. Its The Right's Strategy. Its the only strategy they're following. Its about completely dismantling not just Corbynism but Milibandism. We smile at producers. But we deal with predators.
The Tories are the party of Ownership. Labour want to be the party of Management.

Johnson remains a reckless chancer who pissed off a wedge of Capital. Brexit was a Tory Right project, not a demand of Global Capital. Starmer is looking for a route back as managers for Capital.
And though he looked like an incompetent clown this week, its still the pitch. Expect Reeves to take on more of the direct communication. We are the Managers. That's who "A New Leadership" was for. Not Labour members, not Red Wall blokes on boats. Its for Capital in the capital.
and all the "I support the government", "the government is doing the right thing ... but ... Britain needs a new leadership" That was for Capital. To Capital. We won't change the governing principles. But I'll be less chaotic. It'll be just like Rishi but with no Boris. Win Win.
Obviously these elections - the side show we call representative democracy - put something of a spanner in the works. He looks a failure. But when people are saying "how can he say that?" He's not talking to you. They're pitching to Capital. The project continues. But needs funds
