Beat this game on standard difficulty for the first playthrough and I plan on playing it many times on the harder difficulties. This game was a mess but I really enjoyed it. I think I need to let my thoughts on it marinade for a while before I go crazy on this thread.
If I were to describe this game off the top of my head I& #39;d say it feels like they gave 20 guys different drugs, made them come up with different ideas, and then stuck all of those ideas in the same game.
Many things will happen in this game that will make little sense and go unexplained but that& #39;s okay because it& #39;s a lot of fun at least when it isn& #39;t too dark to see anything. My biggest complaint is that there is no toggleable flashlight or torch of some kind.
A torch would& #39;ve fit this games aesthetic perfectly.
I& #39;d say this game definitely starts off very strong and slowly just gets less structured over time. The first boss takes like 6 hours to get through but then you do the last 4 in under 5 hours. It& #39;s a bit jarring.
The best part of the game was the second boss and that part didn& #39;t even fit the theme lol. The game really only felt like a village at the beginning and between all the disconnected areas.
This game definitely has the best monster designs out of anything I& #39;ve seen in the franchise. This game made me also realize that I don& #39;t really care for the humans in these games at all. Just give me a game where I play as the big booger guy or the scary deformed baby.
I take back what I said about the humans sucking. The Duke was actually the best part about this game even if the shop UI hurt my eyes and confused me at first. The Duke is a beautifully strange travelling companion and I hope to see him in the future.
I really liked the whole thing where hunting animals led to permanent power ups and not minor health gains.
