Been slack this month with catch up on sites post covid.
March numbers for red meat exports look good at $1.04B - will be interesting to see next month as container issues bite. It was also achieved with huge staff shortages with some plants at 30+% vacancy/absenteeism
volumes to China increased to record monthly volume of 36,434t and at 45% of total exports worth $464m. Last year was 35% to China so big uplift and risk supplying one market especially when plants are critically short of Halal workers needed for access to Chinese market.
Red meat exports in Q1 of 2021 were worth $2.7B
Trend has been with China and the US buying more from NZ with decreases to the Japanese and UK markets.
Stats numbers out show sheep numbers to end of June 2020 fell 800,000 from the previous year to 26 million. Droughts were seen as the biggest impact to this number. Beef numbers remain steady at 3.9m contributing $3.8b as exports
