not to be a theory of knowledge student but i wonder how far we can separate the art from the artist; can an artist and their work exist as two separate entities? if an artist is discredited for having problematic personal views, does that destabilise the greatness of their art?
i think ab this a lot when it comes to music. there are tons of artists who have done problematic things or expressed problematic views, does that degrade the quality of their work?
what about figure skaters? is someone’s legacy, or skill, therefore also downgraded because of their personal circumstances? like plushenko, like t*ktik, etc etc. where do we draw the line for the connection between art and artist?
or perhaps an extension: can personal circumstance ruin an (artistic) legacy?
