The Daily Mail & Telegraph have picked up the work done by a group of us at @SheffieldAPS on decolonising the curriculum - & painted it in a very unflattering light, unsurprisingly. (1/2) https://twitter.com/AdamRutherford/status/1391360827773624324">https://twitter.com/AdamRuthe...
Our working group started in 2019 reading Decolonising the University by Bhambra, Gebrial & Nişancıoğlu ( https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/25936)">https://library.oapen.org/handle/20... & came up with a handbook consolidating some of what we& #39;ve learnt, with some eg on how to apply in teaching (2/?)
This handbook is updated periodically ( https://sites.google.com/sheffield.ac.uk/decolonisingecolevol/home;">https://sites.google.com/sheffield... please share this link instead of the static pdf link that the newspapers used), & I& #39;m really glad to have been able to be part of this working group. (3/?)
I& #39;m proud to be at @sheffielduni where the student union @SheffieldSU has recently passed a motion to decolonise the curriculum, & recent updates to the Race Equality Strategy & Action Plan ( https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/students/news/race-equality-1.945782)">https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/students/... (4/?)
includes, amongst other actions, a Decolonising the Curriculum working group & resource hub ( https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/staff/elevate/priorities/decolonising).">https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/staff/ele... Of course this doesn& #39;t mean decolonisation has been achieved, & it& #39;s argued that it can never really be, but is an ongoing process. (5/?)
