Hello, I am here to talk about the rising physical touch as a proxy for feelings when Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock are on screen together. Come along for a ride. #KissingMovies

As you are no doubt aware, Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock starred together in not one but two great romances: Speed & The Lake House (Since good things come in threes, I am holding out hope for another movie with them. Join me in this prayer to the movie gods).

Yes, Speed is a romance. I will not be taking further questions at this time.

Let's examine the evidence of how these two particular actors communicate rising physical intimacy throughout the movies. First up, Speed.

Their first physical interactions: First, he stomps on her to keep her foot on the accelerator, then she's literally using her whole body to turn the wheel. I like this as a metaphor for movement, obviously. But also her strength is reestablished with him as helper.

Next, he moves from physical support to emotional support. She's sad and he comforts her! She hurts herself and he holds her!

Keanu Reeves DEEPLY UNDERSTANDS the power of looking at a person to signal attraction.

Now that he's established himself as a capable partner in many ways, let's stop to admire his forearms.

Honestly. This is porn.

They have to get off this bus, and this is where we see the combination of physical strength & emotional caring happening again. BOTH OF THESE make him a good partner in this movie!

Now, one of my favorites moments in the movie is when he realizes she's been taken by the bad guy. the look on his face! He cannot save her with just his strength, not anymore.

And this continues to be the case when she is cuffed into the train car. Guns cannot save her, his strength cannot save her. All he can do is hold her.

All the kissing happens at the end. Go ahead and watch it.

A few things to note here: She's on top, which I like as a metaphor for how emotional strength has won the day. They've vanquished evil and love has won!

*ps. as far as I'm concerned Speed 2 never happened and these 2 are still together. Let me have this one.

Also, there's a thing these two do when they're kissing. They do it here: a kind of quick, pressing kiss. Not too dirty, but conveying a kind of breathlessness. I like it.

And the way they kiss, we see it again at the end of THE LAKE HOUSE. (this video quality is terrible. sorry).

note the similarity in the *style* of kissing, but also in the dialogue. In SPEED, it's "you stayed with me" and here, it's "you waited."
