Today, when you hear people say that "motherhood is the most important job in the world," go ahead and ask them what a fair salary would be for the world's most important job.
(I'm not coming out in favor of a motherhood salary, simply saying that the line about motherhood being "the most important job in the world" is awfully cheap when you don't support policies that support mothers).
Point being, if you think motherhood is important work (and I certainly do), you owe mothers a lot more than empty platitudes about being The Most Important. You owe them real support, including full choice to become parents, paid leave, and affordable high-quality childcare.
