okay so this isn’t being talked about enough but did yall know that the pandemic has drastically increased the amount of young people with eating disorders?? so i made a thread of eating disorder signs you should be mindful of:
please note, i’m not a professional!! just your average nb gal going through ed-recovery myself and wanting to make sure others have as much info as possible 💖
feeling uncomfortable eating in front of others/making excuses not to eat in front of others
feeling terrified of being picked up/sitting on somebody’s lap out of fear you’ll be ‘too heavy’ for them
collecting songs/pictures/quotes/stories of people with eating disorders or ‘ideal’ bodies
prioritising healthy eating to the point where you feel ashamed or disgusted with yourself for not eating healthy foods 100% of the time
exercising to the point of feeling sick or punishing/disparaging yourself for not doing enough exercise
not eating anything all day (or multiple days) and then eating a large amount in one sitting, and then feeling like a failure afterwards
not being able to stop eating once you’ve started
being ‘hangry’ a lot
setting rules for yourself about when/what you can eat. for example, restricting certain foods or only allowing yourself to eat if you’ve done XYZ beforehand
looking up diet pills or laxatives online
cooking/baking for others but not eating any yourself
wearing multiple layers of clothing in hot weather because you think it’s important to ‘hide’ your flaws
thinking fat = ugly
equating ‘strength’ with denying yourself food you want/need and feeling proud that you did so
on a more physical side of things: rapidly gaining or losing weight, losing hair/hair getting thinner or changing texture (losing volume, becoming more oily or dry when it used to be the opposite, etc), getting a sweet taste in your mouth (ketosis), stomach aches
feeling cold a lot (especially your hands/feet), increase in dental issues such as cavities or discoloured teeth, feeling dizzy or exhausted for no reason
