Question: The vaccine induced transmembrane spike proteins get expressed and transport to cell surfaces. Can the spikes bind ACE-2R (see center in figure below)? Can vaccine spikes down regulate ACE2 by either binding it in the ER, efflux pathway or cell surface?
Or would the S1 subunit of vaccine induced spike need to be made soluble in order to bind ACE2? The predicted pathologic effects of sopping up ACE2 and making it unavailable would cause coagulation, vasoconstriction etc.
Also, another interesting aspect would be shedding of the Spike/ACE2 complex after clipping of the ACE2 ectodomain by ADAM17 thereby releasing it into the circulation and allowing the complex to be transported systemically
