"Ugh! Normal people do not find (insert taboo subject) okay in fiction!"

Game of Thrones was one of the most watched shows in modern history, and it has literally every single type of dark theme in fiction that antis could possibly hate.
There's incest and attempted child murder in episode one. There's rape, there's more incest, there's pedophilia, there's more incest, there's romanticization of arranged marriages and pedophilia, there's incest, there's murder, there's incest...

You get the point.
And I already hear you...

"But the law of averages! Game of Thrones is an outlier and should not be counted!"

Okay. Let's talk Disney princesses.
Tangled? Eugene is 26 and Rapunzel is JUST turning 18. Snow White was 14, the Prince was 31. Prince Philip was 20, Aurora just turned 16. Mulan is 16, Shang is 23.

Oh and then there's Once Upon a Time, which is a Disney property, where Rumplestiltskin (300) marries Belle (20s).
"Well normal adults don't watch Disney-"

Okay, Grey's Anatomy it is. Let's see...Should we talk about Christina Yang and how she canonically slept with her professor in med school, and then slept with Burke (her boss)?
Meredith also sleeps with her boss, Derek, but that's the whole plot of the show.

Now do we wanna mention Mark Sloane and Lexi Grey? Because they have an entire conversation where Mark says he feels "dirty" upon learning Lexi is only 24 when they start sleeping together.
No? Too girly?

Lotta people watch Shameless...

Do we want to disect everything that goes on in that show??? Caaaaause...I don't think you do.
The Handmaid's Tale is literally about fertile women being forced into sex slavery and being raped and used as breeding cattle for the rich and powerful.

Wasn't there rape in The Walking Dead at some point? I don't remember...It's been forever since I've watched it.
Anyways, my point is:

If ""normal people"" didn't think taboo subjects were okay in fiction, why are they COMMON tropes in adult media??? Do you think maybe it has something to do with the fact that adults can seperate fiction from reality and are mature enough to handle it???
Just some fucking food for thought.
