I've been asked by a journalist if the issue of #SheikhJarrah was "a private dispute", thereby serving Israel's propaganda. While 1000s of Palestinians were demonstrating across historic Palestine tonight, a #THREAD for context on the decades-long policies of erasure in Jerusalem
Israel has used all kinds of legal ways to take over land. Here a policy brief shedding light on #Silwan & #SheikhJarrah that have been battling this for a long time https://www.ir-amim.org.il/sites/default/files/Jerusalem%201967-2020%20_%20The%20Truth%20About%20Annexation.pdf
Notably, Palestinians whose houses were stolen in 1948 in Jerusalem are deemed "absentees" and can't claim them back even if many live a few km away in the West Bank. But Jewish people can, not even the owner but settlers organizations. https://twitter.com/RZabaneh/status/1391444212433002497
All this to say, that beyond this period, this month and the moment when cameras and media are suddenly interested ... the anger and thirst for justice & rights has been built over generations. and it won't go until Palestinians can be free in their homeland.
