My youngest has just finished two weeks of solid assessments. He is exhausted, has a week's break and then has to start again. In the meantime, he has to attend school - to what purpose I'm not sure because no-one has bothered to share any of the logic of this with us.

I am not whinging because, in the scheme of things, he is coping fine and I know there are others who are not. But we really need to use this as a catalyst to think about the purpose of education and the welfare of young people.

It's a cliche, I know, but you don't fatten a pig by constantly weighing it.
