Forgive me, gonna go off the rails on a little sci-fi speculation why modern billionaires may want to limit access to COVID vaccines around the world / have downplayed & amplified misinformation about pandemic.
All to do with something JG Ballard called “invisible literature”…
All to do with something JG Ballard called “invisible literature”…
“Invisible literature” Ballard defined in 1970s as technical manuals, actuarial reports, interoffice letters, medical preprints, vast reams of specialist writing collected in professional journals & memos.
In 1987 he imagined a world where all information would be available:

We have surpassed JG Ballard’s sci-fi predictions for future pathologies. More than ever invisible literature is attainable like never before. We have just lived thru 1st pandemic where almost anyone could seize on medical preprints for instant expertise. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-03564-y">https://www.nature.com/articles/...
There is another level of invisible literature, not as accessible except for the wealthy: classified reports of stock brokers & insurance adjusters, doing a bastardized riff on sci-fi. Their job is to predict & control wealth. You & I see a fraction of it. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/13/coronavirus-goldman-sachs-says-livestock-looking-as-precarious-as-oil.html">https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/1...
Add to this mix the increasing use of actual spies to work for privately owned non governmental agencies doing intelligence work - just as soldiers became PMCs /
- and if you’re wealthy enough you can buy extraordinary data (or personal info on opponents) https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/five-corporations-now-dominate-our-privatized-intelligence-industry/">https://www.thenation.com/article/a...

The thing is, so much of this invisible literature, can be found if you just know where to look.
Like this absolutely terrifying 2019 Goldman Sachs document on how climate change will destroy life as we know it (and how to invest wisely!) https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/pages/gs-research/taking-the-heat/report.pdf">https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/...

Or how about this 2019 US Army report on how climate change is the greatest single challenge facing the world leading to wars… And a collapse of the US power grid is due within 20 years because of it? https://climateandsecurity.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/implications-of-climate-change-for-us-army_army-war-college_2019.pdf">https://climateandsecurity.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/i...
Once saw a wealth manager’s confidential report to its investors and was stunned by how much it resembled amateurish robotic sci-fi writing & unequivocally objectively rationalized climate devastation as a market force.
Every billionaire on the planet is neck deep in this shit.
Every billionaire on the planet is neck deep in this shit.
If you have a business requires global supply chains for say, electric cars or home surveillance music players, every day you get actual spy world intelligence far beyond this about strip mining the planet. Why do you think so many of these Lex Luthor wannabes want to leave it?
Here’s a mic drop - @rushkoff in 2018 at an investment banker think tank getting asked:
“How do we pay our private mercenary army as our bodyguards when the inevitable global collapse happens?’ https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/23/tech-industry-wealth-futurism-transhumanism-singularity">https://www.theguardian.com/technolog...

If you manage to skim the invisible literature prepared for our billionaires, the recurrent theme is:
There’s too many people, too few resources, and all life on the planet is threatened by it.
And so what do they do..?

Since the pandemic has started Forbes estimated the world’s wealthiest have grown richer by 35%.
How have you been doing? https://www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2021/04/30/american-billionaires-have-gotten-12-trillion-richer-during-the-pandemic/">https://www.forbes.com/sites/cha...

So let me ask: if you project yourself entirely rationally into mindset of a billionaire saturated with this info for the past decade… Is it entirely bad for you if some people die in a pandemic? Keeping 94% efficacy vaccines out of poorer countries… Might be good for you?
