As someone who has spent the last 20 years picking up the broken pieces of discarded racehorses & teaching them that the world is more than just pain & punishment, I& #39;d like to point out that trainers drugging horses is nothing unusual. Living beings are not commodities, dammit.
Here& #39;s retired racer Mojave Moon (Jockey Club name Rogue Status) with a 13-year old girl. He was going to go to brutal match races in the CA desert until he broke down. We got him for $750 & spent 3 YEARS teaching him to trust again. Now he is just the sweetest.
Here& #39;s Guinness On Tap (Jockey Club name Irish Informer), who we& #39;re currently rehabbing after he was worked to the point of nearly destroying his tendons. He just turned 3 and has no manners whatsoever, plus he flinches at everything. He is a huge baby.
This is Vash The Stampede (JC name Succotash Road), who I rescued from heading to slaughter in Canada when I was 22 (& in college). His trainer hated him, he could never go to shows in spite of being a phenomenal jumper, & he is the biggest puppy dog you& #39;ll ever meet.
