people who are struggling with mental health problems are basically treated like dirt because when you are struggling in life you aren’t making money for your boss. there’s cardboard cutouts set up to make healthy people think help exists, but it’s all just smoke and mirrors
the suicide hotline basically just transfers you over to a psychologist which will cost you a ton of money or else they send the cops to do a “welfare check” aka gun you down in your home
psychologists mostly just give you really expensive downers or uppers depending on how you say you feel, they don’t actually fix the problems that made you feel bad in the first place. therapy and psychoanalysis help but it’s often expensive and can’t fix everything
for example, if you’re struggling with ptsd or anxiety or are simply underdeveloped in some way because of a failure of the education system this often results in financial problems as well, which means you can’t actually afford to climb the ladder back to society
i would say 90% of the time financial problems are the root of mental health problems. there are exceptions, like rich people who experience like…a sort of bourgeois malaise, but if you’re rich you can afford expensive therapy which will probably help you get better
or else if you’re rich you can afford to just lay around feeling bad about everything which, although it sucks, doesn’t actually lead to homelessness or starvation or anything
but yeah poor people are basically slowly neglected and left to tread water over a painful series of years until they either drown, snap and end up in jail, or kill themselves
disability payments from the govt are kind of a joke because they will try their very hardest to make sure you don’t qualify for them, there’s always some reason why you’re healthy enough to not deserve it
basically, instead of rounding mentally ill people up and shooting them we slowly eliminate their options one at a time, carefully removing each glimmer of hope til nothing remains
a universal basic income could maybe help idk. or maybe a society that priotized people’s well being over profit. but in the meantime everyone is stuck with this hell world
i bet addressing this crisis by throwing money at it would eliminate like 90% of crime. but they don’t wanna do that, they need crime to exist to fill up private prisons
not saying i am doing badly rn, i’m doing fine, these are simply my observations from struggling with various things in the past
this society is extremely violent, it’s just hidden behind a veneer of rhetoric about self care
this is also why telling people to simply “ask for help” or “get help” often comes across more like a curse than anything of value
sorry if this thread is upsetting to people but this is a serious unacknowledged problem. the stigma around these things exists because poor people don’t want to sound like they are asking for money, and because everyone knows subconsciously the brutal truth must be avoided
