josie and hope understand each other. josie has said several times she is not ready to take her magic back and is scared of dark josie taking over, but the only times she’s taken back her magic is when it came to hope, this is more important than her fear of dark josie, a thread:
in all of josie’s relationships, the other person usually sees her as damaged and as someone who needs to be protected. finch called josie damaged, landon ran away instead of being honest with hope and josie
because he was protecting their feelings, but ended up hurting josie more. penelope tried turning the twins against each other so josie could win the merge.
but with hope it’s different. hope constantly reassures josie that she is strong and powerful and that josie can take care of herself.
a parallel of 3x11 and 3x08

in 3x08 josie says she doesn’t know who she is and mystic falls was a fresh start, free from drama, and hope tells her she has to accept that it’s a part of her.
in 3x11 josie finally accepts that these things will always be a part of her, just like hope said to her in 3x08, and dark josie said to her throughout the whole episode.
in hope’s relationship with landon, we see that landon is annoyed with hope always trying to protect him, trying to have him looked after, and he doesn’t understand why hope does what she does. hope sees landon as someone who needs to be watched, someone who won’t get in her way
when she’s trying to defeat a monster, someone who can sit there and make her feel better, which, going by the artifact theory, explains why she took out all the parts of landon that annoyed her and kept the parts that are useful to her, like him being useful with information.
as we can assume, that isn’t the real landon, just parts hope decided she loved about him, making him “perfect.” she left out the parts where he doesn’t understand her actions.

but what’s interesting is how it is shown that josie is always understanding hope’s actions.
and with josie it’s different. josie defended hope to both landon and lizzie, she understood why hope did what she did. she’s the only one who gets hope’s actions and doesn’t actually blame her for the things she does, she trusts hope in her decisions.
josie is everything hope needs. josie can take care of herself and trusts hope enough to make the right decisions, she won’t doubt hope’s actions and generally just trusts hope enough to be willing to do dark magic with her, like mentioned in 3x09.
let’s also not forget in 2x10 when the monster was bringing out everyone’s true thoughts, landon said hope punches her way through problems instead of sitting and trying to figure them out, which means he really doesn’t trust her to figure things out on her own, unlike josie.
all the faults you see in hope’s relationship with landon and josie’s past relationships, are not there when it comes to hope and josie’s dynamic.

it’s become very clear since season 1&2 how much hope cares about josie, despite not even being that close in the beginning.
but in season 3, we are starting to see a new perspective on their relationship, now focused on how much josie cares about hope, enough to do magic again to help her, twice.
if the theory about the landon we’ve seen the past episodes being the ideal version of him that hope wished for with the artifact, is right, then landon being strong and always being supportive of her decisions are all things landon never was, hope didn’t love that about him.
on the other hand, these are all qualities josie possesses, like i mentioned before. hope wants landon the way she has josie.
and if it weren’t for my friends maia and cas this wouldn’t have been possible mwah
