When we were 18 and looking for houses in DU’s north campus, Natasha’s father would get baffled every time PG owners reassured, “ Don’t worry your daughter will be safe here. We have strict curfew of 7 pm”. His constant reply was, “ I am very worried, why you would lock her up.”

He finally suggested that Natasha rent an independent flat in north campus and experience the city as it should be. Over the next three years we learnt what a phenomenal man and single parent he was: calm, compassionate, and more radical than any of us.

Cruel irony, Natasha, Taliya from Natalie to him, remains locked up much against her father’s last wishes.
