2/ Getting to Marrakesh is easy. Fly across the Atlantic. Turn right. Stopping in Portugal is optional, but absolutely delightful. That's another thread though. We flew via Casablanca to Marrakesh (and later back to Casablanca). @centerepublican @travelingmkter @jasontravelblog
3/ Marrakesh's inner city is its medina, and it's still surrounded by thick adobe walls and gates. Inside, 2 to 5-story adobe buildings, souks (markets), plazas, restaurants, riads (garden hotels/inns), winding roads, minarets and bazaars. #travel #vacation
4/ Marrakesh is 950 years old, Morocco’s fourth largest city and has just under a million people. Morocco, Moor, Moorish, Morris, Maurice, Mauritania all derive from this city’s name. Its landmark is the towering 253’ Koutoubyya Mosque minaret built circa 1158-1199 AD. #traveller
5/ Roads pour through the gates all aimed at the absolute center of Marrakesh, the Jamaa el Fnaa, Africa’s biggest square. We see hawkers, snake charmers, women selling henna, etc., etc., etc. The large plaza ebbs into restaurant stalls and then into a fixed, traditional bazaar.
