It’s so special to see loads of you sharing stories of how you started in support of #Future1000. I guess now it’s my turn!...
I never thought I’d end up working in music, but as you can see from these pics, I was a party gal in my teens. Addicted to the booming thud of bass, and excitement of meeting new people, I’d always find myself out at a rave most weekends (sorry mum and dad)...
But I was actually a really shy little girl (still am deep down tbh) from a small, sheltered island in the English Channel, but I was always curious.
From an early age I secretly wanted to be a presenter, but didn’t have the confidence to even dream of having a go at mixing records or talking on a mic.
It wasn’t until years later when I went to uni in Leeds, when my curiosity led me to join @ThisIsLSR where I ended up hosting my own Friday night show as ‘Dangerous Jag’ 😂😭 I felt like I could do it, because I had discovered Annie Mac show on @BBCR1.
Hearing @anniemacmanus playing house music made me want to have a go. I saw myself in her, and felt like maybe I could do it too!
I’m still in awe of this incredible woman, alongside @Blessed_Madonna @claraamfo @jamzsupernova - who are fantastic role models for myself and so many other girls. I’m so grateful to them. Visibility is so important. You can’t be what you can’t see.
And that’s what #Future1000 is all about. I want to inspire more young girls, trans and non-binary people to follow their dreams, and realise that they can be whatever they want to be. Thanks for all your support so far. It means so much!
