also, happy mothers day! a lot of people assign the moon to the mother, and I wanna take an astrological dive on that
i personally think of the moon as the "nurturing" parent, but i think one of the coolest things about the moon is that the moon does not have its own light. it actually reflects the light from the sun. that's why we can see the moon at all
if the sun represents us, i like to think that the moonlight is the moon's way of helping illuminate and remember who we are. also, the moon's light is soft and isn't harmful. you're not gonna hurt yourself looking at the moon (as opposed to the sun)
directly trying to access ourselves (the sun) can be overwhelming. you know, maybe the moon provides an avenue for us to make self-realization less painful, and more comforting... and i'd like to think that's what mothers do. making the question of "who am I" a little easier.
the moon is a gentler way to remind us of who we are, and i like to think mothers can serve that role too. it's interesting right? nurturing, tending to one's emotions, and looking at your gut reactions are all ways to remind ourselves of who we are indirectly lol
i think the most empowering thing from all of this is that the goal eventually is to do all of this by yourself, without your mother someday. this is even more important for people who didn't have good mothers growing up. i see you.
existing sucks ass, but it's a lot better when you can feel safe and validated <3
