In a bittersweet marker of progress against this pandemic, @shybearbrewing is no longer doing home delivery of beer. I prefer no COVID and no beer delivery to COVID and beer delivery, BUT … 1/
As COVID (hopefully) fades and other priorities rise back to the top of the list, let’s take a moment to consider all the barriers (some tiny, some significant) that we broke down this year. Let’s not “return to normal” where “normal” was really only good for a few … 2/
In 2020 we:
1. learned that many jobs can be done from home during hours that flex to the employee’s needs … which helps folks with kids, eldercare, bad days when they cant handle other folks, racist coworkers they need a break from, or dogs that need extra snuggles 3/
In 2020 we:
2. supported employers who subsidized paid sick leave and paid medical leave (for testing/vaccination) because it helps everyone to have less communicable disease 4/
In 2020 we:
3. Prioritized the needs of renters and protected them from eviction, both because it was the human thing to do and because lots of unhoused folks is itself a public health disaster 5/
In 2020 we:
4. Made baby steps towards recognizing that centuries of racist and misogynistic policies in this country are an amplifier of public health crises and dismantling them helps everybody 6/
In 2020 we:
5. Realized that rapid, easy, free access to preventive health services (testing, vaccination) is cost effective relative to letting people get sick 7/
In 2020 we:
6. realized that investment in public spaces (parks, outdoor dining) promotes health and helps maintain social and cultural connections 8/
And yes, here in Pennsylvania, in 2020, we:
7. Realized that beer delivery will not, in fact, lead to the demise of modern civilization (beer delivery from @shybearbrewing in a Santa outfit on Xmas day was THE 2020 highlight!) 9/
I, for one, have no interest in getting rid of COVID to “go back to normal”. But anybody that wants to join me in getting rid of COVID AND going to a better place, hop on the train.
