I used to have to feed three of us on £30 a week, including nappies & toiletries. I did this for 2.5 years and it was so draining.

There may only be two of us now but we live comfortably on £60 a week instead, & I& #39;m eternally grateful that my finances turned around in 2020. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🖤" title="Schwarzes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Schwarzes Herz">
It has taken over 12 months to stop hoarding a million tins of tomatoes and baked beans in my cupboard.

It& #39;s taken until now to be okay with empty gaps in my cupboard, and not feel panic in my chest.

Being dirt poor is traumatising and I never wanna go back. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💔" title="Gebrochenes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Gebrochenes Herz">
Some weeks we didn& #39;t even have £30, we had £15 or £10. I could do a whole week& #39;s shop on that at a push, but it was stressful to cook with such constraints instead of enjoyable.

I& #39;m not rich now by any means, I earn £10k a year & rely on UC, but my life is drastically better.
So when I see the Tories winning elections and Labour falling apart at the seams, it makes me feel like my situation is so precarious, and it leads to genuine fear.

If they reduce UC, I& #39;ll to back to living on pennies. My wage covers my rent and nothing more. I mean nothing.
I& #39;m so grateful I no longer live in the kind of poverty that means I was indebted to the kindness of friends rather than using foodbanks.

But I feel like I could be back there at a moment& #39;s notice under the Tories. Not only that, but I don& #39;t feel like a single party has my back.
I feel like the system in Britain is truly broken.

What kind of country are we living in where MPs are more interested in tearing each other apart for the sake of point scoring, than in the fact that 23% of Britons live in poverty?

It& #39;s enough to make anyone feel hopeless.
