Still thinking about what @huwbbc said about the differences between @Plaid_Cymru & @WelshLabour and he's very much got what could be the reason for PC not making that continuous hold into the heartlands of Labour. It's about maintaining these breakthroughs for them.
The parties are very similar. Very similar in fact that you probably couldn't tell much apart manifesto or policy wise at a glance. That shows that both parties are looking to achieve similar goals but in different ways.
Both parties though have their issues & both are primarily perceptions of the parties, at least in my own opinion that is.

Plaid's perception of being seen as the "Y Fro Gymraeg" party which has been massively softened over the past decade, especially since Leanne Wood's tenure.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Labour issue is where next? Torn between UK Labour that's ready for a civil war every year & being the only successful form of the party but not making that step to sever the political umbilical cord as it were. It has to make a decision, even if uncomfortable or unpopular.
The parties both seek to create a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 on similar grounding but also vastly different. PC believe this is achievable by independence whilst Labour, for now, believe it's achievable within the 🇬🇧 model.
Where Plaid have grown as has Labour as the belief that a "conservative" way of political ideology has been rejected in favour of more progressive policies. But where Plaid have lost labour strengthened and that has to be addressed.
Throughout the lead up to the Senedd elections I saw that many whom weren't first language Welsh speakers or even spoke Welsh had become PC voters challenging the narrative of being just for a particular demographic and that's positive moving forward but more has to be done.
And what I saw with Labour was despite the positive gains, a lot of members arent willing to let their party just repeat the same old myths & mantra that have come before. Rather than scare tactics, many are challenging their own party for positive reasons & debate.
With groups like @Lab4IndyWales being there to influence change, a change that is happening as the gulf between 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 & 🇬🇧 grows, not just in Labour, but as entities overall. The "champagne socialism" and non refusal mentality to even discuss change is nomlonger an option.
Labour are changing, as are Plaid. Two parties that have probably the most similar voter base out of ANY parties across the British political landscape and going back even 20 years ago would that be the case? Probably not.
It's just my opinion, make of it what you will, but Plaid Cymru need to continue to make strides to go after the areas they believe can support them outside of their own heartlands and target newly eligible voters or voters that will be eligible at the next Senedd elections.
Labour just need to make a decision whether to REALLY move forward & stand apart from UK Labour as they have shown that the electorate believes that they can. It's up to them to do that now. Have that self belief.
Anyway, it's Sunday. Plenty of good things happening, such as the @YesCymru nominees being announced & a real sense that we in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 are now better off after the elections with us getting rid of the grifters & rejecting those that would do harm to the future of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.
Ymlaen Cymru.
