I was driving past a local restaurant the other day and caught their newly formed patio space. They’d built a nice wooden fence around socially distanced patio tables, with some lights hung. I was hit with a pang of sympathy and sadness for them. 1/
Here was a restaurant doing its best to follow the rules and keep its business afloat. @jkenney decided that patios were safe less than a month ago and a lot of restaurants moved to accommodate. It costs money every time something new has to be adapted.
And it sat there, in use, but as of today, it won’t be in use for weeks. That owner likely didn’t make the money back from what it cost to adapt.

Most businesses are doing what they need to do and the cost of that cannot be ignored. Especially for small local companies /3
Yes, there are costs associated with running a business. But @jkenney’s haphazard restrictions and refusal to go to #CovidZero will end up costing more and more for all of us, for many reasons. /4
He campaigned on Albertan businesses and the little guy - none of which have benefited from any of his policies to date.

@jkenney, do more for these places who keep adapting and changing. Support them. Reimburse them? Reward their efforts for keeping the public safe. #COVID19AB
And please, @jkenney, @shandro, @CMOH_Alberta, let’s go for #CovidZero. There are many reasons why it’s a good call but the cost of opening and shutting businesses, esp for the small business cannot be negated. We are going to lose a lot of great Albertan businesses otherwise.
The rest of us? Look in your local community: who has followed the restrictions? Support their businesses. For rest, skip the app deliveries (if you’re able)& order direct. Buy from local as often as possible.

And ask for @jkenney to go for #covidZero.
