This idea of asking people to live within there means is very somehow in a country where the "means " has but disappeared. I recently came back from Nigeria. My eyes saw things. My mum was always telling me that prices of things had gone up. I didn't believe till i entered.
I went to the market with my mum, i also went to the mall. The same stuff i could get for 10k to 15k before i travelled were alll at 25k to 30k. I did try to reach out to people but what was at the back of my mind was..so if this cash that i gave this person finishes ..
How would the person cope. From meat to rice to beans to provisions even garri had added price. I heard some one buy 3 crowns tin milk for above 200naira. Infact one of the days i went to the mall i ended up paying for some people on the queue with me. One man kept on saying ..
Thank you to my embarrassment. I entered the car and tears dropped from my eyes. I saw someone who couldn't get to the hospital after having a fermoral fracture just cos of money. A neighbour couldn't register her child for WEAC and NECO because of money. Pensioners are being..
owed , civil servants are being owed. I mean i saw debilitating poverty. Food, health and housing poverty is the worst kind. Then someone will have the mind to ask someone to live within their means. Haba nau. Let us fear God. Meanwhile some people are eating the country dry.
People can see those they elected feeding fat and even planning to cut salaries thereby reducing the 'means'more. We are obviously not ready for what is coming.
We must all do better ..both in communication and action.
