I just read about the plans to sell the land where Parc Hospital graveyard is situated, pitched as having & #39;residential potential& #39; (the article cites the excellent @hellohistoria) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-56979670">https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-w...
This really resonates with me because it has strong echos of Woodlands in New Westminster, BC, Canada, which I& #39;ve written about and developed a creative project around over a decade ago at @DouglasArts https://deviantmaternity.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/examining-woodlands-how-far-have-we-really-come/">https://deviantmaternity.wordpress.com/2013/09/2...
TL:DR a former Victorian asylum turned home for neurodivergent children, where the grave stones from the cemetery were unceremoniously removed and used for, amongst other things, a staff BBQ pit (the stones were deemed too grim for residents in the nearby hospital to look out at)
Can we please stop treating the remains of marginalised individuals with such disrespect? This is not just about the remains of vulnerable people; it& #39;s also about how we treat the vulnerable living now, which is pretty shocking at times. This is a symptom of a much bigger problem
