Important 🧵.
Irish Examiner discovered Perinatal Mortality Rates (PMRs) are highest where the mother or expectant mother is listed as African national & living in Ireland.

But, the @HSELive beleives it has nothing to do with maternity services. It's us! https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40283846.html
The childbirth rate is 6,3% compared to 3.7% for national Irish mothers.

The early neonatal mortality rate is more than double that for national Irish mothers, at 3.5% compared to 1.6%, and the perinatal mortality rate is nearly double - 9.8% compared with 5.3%.
According to the maternal death enquiry report in 2015, migrant women make up less than 20 % of the population but 40% of maternal deaths.

So, what does the @HSELive think of these shocking disparities and disproportionalities?
1. The @HSELive stated that while the rates vary and “may appear large” they are “not remarkable” by international standards.

2. HSE’s National Women& Infants Health Programme (NWIHP) added: “It may be useful to bear in mind the PMR in Nigeria is approximately 40 per thousand."
3.The HSE appears to be saying that African women could, in effect, benefit from better education

4. The @HSELive
Response is in effect that this has absolutely nothing to do with maternity services!
Basically, African and migrant women are disproportionately dying during child birth & it has nothing to do with the services they receive.

@HSELive we would like an answer because this is a rudiculous response! We are disproportionately dying and you are blaming us for it.
@HSELive advises that if we, African/Black women, get an education that we won't be dying at a much higher rate!
We're not the problem.

However, if you have training/education on "how not to die during child birth while Black bse of racism" we will certainly avail of it.
Thanks.
