Asexuality an informative thread 🧵 🪡
What is asexuality?
Asexuality is a sexual orientation and it’s a spectrum (wide range)
People who are asexual, can’t choose to be (like gay people can’t choose to be gay)

The meaning of asexuality is:
“Experience little to no sexual attraction”
Btw people who experience sexual attraction are called “Allosexuals”
What is sexual attraction?
Sexual attraction is when you look at somebody and get “turned on” by them or want to have s3x with them
You find them “hot” or “sexy”

I don’t think I need to explain further 🤦‍♀️
Asexual spectrum- as its a spectrum there’s lots of different micro labels and labels to asexuality

The main ones include:

Asexual- no sexual attraction
Demi-sexual- need an emotional attachment or be in love to feel sexual attraction*
Grey-sexual- feel sexual attraction rarely could be a once in a lifetime thing, or happens every few years
Analogy for allosexuals:
How many people are on the asexual spectrum?

There’s studies that have found that 1-4% of the population is on the asexual spectrum (that’s 1-4 in every 100 people)
Romantic orientations:

While everyone has a sexual orientation: gay, bisexual, heterosexual & asexual & so forth- everyone also has a romantic orientation

Again like ur sexual orientation you can’t pick what romantic orientation you have
most people’s romantic orientation+
“lines” up with their sexual orientation
Bisexual- biromantic
Heterosexual- hetero-romantic
And so on….

But people who are asexual

(& even people who are hetero or gay can have a different romantic orientation too their sexual one)

Have romantic orientation too (including+
aromantic)
Examples of different sorts of romantic attraction:
Heteromantic (straight) only want to date/only fall in love with people of the opposite gender- romantic attraction is basically who you fall in love with
Biromantic- any gender-might have a preference
Panromantic- +
gender blind could Fall in love with anybody
Homoromantic (gay) - fall in love with the opposite gender

Aromantic- can’t fall in love
Aromantic- brief summary- aromantic is where you can’t fall in love with anybody- aromantic people ARE NOT heartless, they can still love! But just not in the romantic sense
They probably prefer friendships
Just like being gay, you can’t choose to be aromantic
Asexual misconceptions:
Asexual people “hate” & are “disgusted” by the idea of sex- while this is true for some (like me) it’s not true for most- most asexual people are just indifferent to sex- they don’t find it appealing, it can be boring, worthless, and not a need
Asexual people- choose to not have sex & surpress their sexual nature like nuns or celibate people
Asexuality is not celibacy- in fact some asexual people have sex!! To make their allosexual partners happy, to try it out, some might even like it
Asexuality is LACK OF SEXUAL
ATTRACTION nothing more 🤷‍♀️

“You can’t tell if that person is attractive or not!”
1st off we’re (as a collective) not blind, we can still have aesthetic attraction & can be more drawn to someone’s beauty than anothers

Aesthetic attraction definition:
What NEVER 👎 to say to asexual people:
“You’re not old enough yet!!”Well if people at 13 are old enough to know they’re straight & so forth they can recognise they’re asexual too

“You just haven’t met the right person” While this might be true & a once asexual person+
could find out they’re not anymore- it’s very invalidating to say and hurts our feelings

“Just try it!” - No Karen! Just no, don’t make us feel like we have to “try” it to suit your ideals

“Sex is human nature, everybody does it!” 1st off this is so wrong- it’s telling us that
We’re not “normal” or “human” & plants the idea we are “broken” because we might not want sex
Good Ace rep: Sex Education
This was a very poignant moment-I cried a lot when i saw this scene- as I’ve gone my whole life thinking I was weird, broken, misunderstood just cause I don’t want sex- when the whole world revolves around sex & u don’t want it How r u supposed to feel?
Bad ace rep: Hubies Halloween-a short line in a kids movie, was bad representation- it didn’t need to be there & does more harm then good, this person would be “grey sexual” & noone explained this- it seems like asexual people can turn on & off their sexual attraction. I was+
Very offended and angry at this line as people would watch this getting the wrong idea about asexuality
If you’re going to represent us represent us correctly or not at all and as a running joke in a kids movie
Asexual people are part of the LGBTQA+ community (we are the “A” -with aromantic)
We are in the LGBTQ+ community even if we are heteroromantic- because we’re not “straight” we’re not what society sees as “normal” in world obsessed with sex & we’re not.
we need a place to belong
Athough he was never stated officially as “asexual” Raphael was very clearly asexual

Raphael in shadowhunters series- he experiences no desire for sex, & is not sexually attracted to Isabelle
End of thread- if anyone wants to add more I’d greatly appreciate it :P
***homoromantic (gay) fall in love with the Same gender
I made a mistake 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
