As someone who has regular 1-2-1 support at college (I'm 17) I would like to say this (A thread)

There is no shame in being supported this way. In fact, I wouldn't have thrived like I have if it wasn't for my 'support worker'.
Some think that those with this support become dependant.

I would disagree. My 1-2-1 support sessions (most lectures + independent study times) have helped me become more independent than ever.

I feel comfortable walking halfway to college because I am met at the gates.
I have friends because my support worker is in her early 20s, she fits in with my social circle and can relate to me.

I am on track to pass a Level 3 course in 2 years' time which means I will be able to be employed in the apprenticeship I want.
So, people who work in #SEND, I would like to thank you, for all that you do to give those with additional support needs the skills they need to be independent.
