I’ve seen people saying stuff to the effect of ‘No no, whether you agree with them or not, they genuinely believe this is the path back to power’, but that’s, like, not why they’re doing this. No one who cares about Labour winning elections would do this. https://twitter.com/rachshabi/status/1391100244134346754
This is purely about control of the Labour Party, and it’s gone on for over a decade. They didn’t care about winning in 2015, they actively sabotaged any chance of winning in 2017 and 2019, and they’d rather lose the next election from the right than win it from the left.
I get that this doesn’t seem plausible to journalists, but maybe you should ask yourselves why you’re being leaked stuff by these people when it damages the party’s electoral chances.
I’ve been in meetings and knocked doors with these people. They’re not slick technocrats with a grand plan for a Labour majority that’s too complex for us mere mortals to grasp. They’re mostly just people who did unexpectedly well in the 90s who want it to be the 90s forever.
Yes, some of them may have convinced themselves that anyone to the left of Neil Kinnock will have views that are unpalatable to the electorate and therefore really is ‘helping the Tories’, but that would only make sense of their own politics was popular.
It isn’t. It keeps getting rejected, and it doesn’t work anyway. The technocrats are not technocrats. Their supposed expertise has brought civilisation to the brink. Climate change proves that they’re inept. Stop giving them the benefit of the doubt before they kill us all.
Understandable I guess. No one wants to be told that the people who they think are the good guys aren't actually good. https://twitter.com/Simon_Vessey/status/1391340230662316032?s=20
